The 90:10 Rule

Don't let perfection be the enemy of good.

This is one of the most important concepts I try to instill in my clients in order for them to be successful.

My thought process is this...

You can easily self sabotage your success when it comes to your diet with a perfectionist mindset.

In order to truly sustain a long-term healthy diet and lifestyle, you must allow wiggle room for your personal and social life.

It is better to plan ahead for your special occasions and allow yourself to indulge (while staying in control) instead of restricting yourself, giving in and then feeling shameful or like a failure after you had a bite of the cake.

If you are too restrictive with your diet and exercise then the pendulum can easily swing to the way opposite direction (aka eat everything in sight!). This way of life can become very demotivating and make living healthfully stressful.

Restricting your diet is also the reason why so many of us revert back to our old ways only to find the weight come right back on (and more of it!).

My point being...

It is better to balance your lifestyle by having a ratio of

MORE GOOD: LESS BAD also maybe known as the "90:10 rule".

A few not so great meals will not sabotage your progress BUT when those not so great meals become a habit then you will have a problem. Sure, you may not feel your best after consuming a crappy meal but sometimes "looking fat" is more mental than anything.

Remember to have mind over matter when making your food choices. Ask yourself "How is this food going to make me FEEL?" then ask yourself "Is it worth it?"

Don’t aim for perfection, aim for better!
